Iqaluit Kuunga Territorial Park (formerly called Sylvia Grinnell) encompasses 4,310 hectares and includes the 15-hectare island of Qaummaarviit Historic Park. Established in 1991, both parks protect culturally significant harvesting sites and archaeological remains of previous Thule and Inuit occupation. As the community of Iqaluit has grown, Iqaluit Kuunga park has been embraced for day use, picnics, camping and recreation. Iqaluit Kuunga is the most visited park in Nunavut. In 2007 NVision completed the planning and design of the Iqaluit Kuunga interpretive trail and signage program. The interpretation shares Inuit knowledge of animal and plant species, and the seasonal environment of the park. Between 2018 and 2021 NVision worked with a Community Joint Planning and Management Committee to prepare a comprehensive master plan for Iqaluit Kuunga and Qaummaarviit. The twenty-year plan will enhance infrastructure and trail development and provide heritage appreciation and learning opportunities at places of cultural significance.
