Through this project NVision assisted the CMA to develop a long term goal with respect to Indigenous health and wellness to include within its Strategic Plan (Impact 2040 Strategy). This included preparation of a comprehensive landscape report supporting the CMA’s assessment of an approach to Indigenous health reconciliation. This addressed mental health and addictions issues from population health, social determinants of health and social justice perspectives. It explored culturally based models for health and mental health services, including addictions and trauma treatment, and issues within current health systems including with respect to racism and discrimination and the impacts of colonial practices within the health professions and across the health system. This report also informed development of the CMA’s national apology for harms to Indigenous peoples issued in September 2024.
