The Don River Valley is a key flood protection feature and central element of the Port Lands site in Toronto, Ontario. A multi-year engineering project is developing a new park with a naturalized river mouth connecting to Lake Ontario’s Inner Harbour, providing a green framework for public spaces and mixed-use development on Toronto’s waterfront district. The Port Lands landscape requires an interpretive program to highlight Indigenous history, contemporary culture, settlement, industrial heritage, natural resources and processes, and engineering. NVision is designing the interpretive program, with a focus on “Water” as a central theme. Interpretive signage, structures, graphics, and activities will reveal the site’s layers of meaning, from Indigenous history to the modern urban park, helping visitors connect with the area’s history and environment.
