Elena Abel (M’Chigeeng First Nation) has devoted her career to initiatives that celebrate, honour, and support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. With a diverse background encompassing cultural programming in the non-profit and education sectors, as well as Indigenous relations in municipal government, she is driven by a passion to create opportunities for Indigenous communities. In 2022, Elena joined NVision as a Reconciliation Consultant, where she has played a crucial role in guiding various institutions through the initial development of their strategic reconciliation action plans.

Currently serving as an Intermediate Consultant and Instructional Designer with the Learning Services team, Elena was instrumental in the redesign and development of the 2023 update of “The Path – Your Journey through Indigenous Canada.” This online cultural awareness course has reached over 35,000 learners across Canada.

Elena views herself as a lifelong learner, holding an Honours degree in Public Administration and Governance, a graduate diploma in Indigenous Public Policy, and is now actively pursuing her eLearning certification through Seneca College. Beyond her academic endeavors, Elena dedicates her spare time to operating Miigwetch Gifts, showcasing her talent in designing and crafting jewelry and other gift items.

Although raised off-reserve, Elena maintains a strong sense of pride in her membership with M’Chigeeng First Nation. Presently, she lives on unceded Algonquin territory with her wife and two children, actively participating and volunteering in the urban Indigenous community of Ottawa.
